Niagara Region Wind Power Project Highlights

One of the largest FIT contracts awarded by the Ontario government, this wind power project will provide power to thousands of Ontario homes with clean, emission and pollution free energy. At the same time, this project will create employment opportunities in the region and support local economic development.

Capacity and Type:

A 230 MW Class 4 wind power project

Wind turbines:

77 3.0 MW turbines anticipated to be grouped in small clusters

Location:

in and across the Regional Municipality of Niagara, the Township of West Lincoln, the Town of Wainfleet and Haldimand County.

Power Purchase Agreement:

issued by the Ontario Power Authority to REB in February 2011

Connecting to the grid:

in Grimsby near the QEW

New jobs:

700 new jobs created during project development and 100 long-term jobs during the operating life of the wind power project.
Land lease income: over $80 million in land lease payments to residents of the Niagara Region and Haldimand County during the operating life of the wind power project.
